Malibu is a coastal city located in the westside of Los Angeles and incorporated in 1991. With a community of about 13,000 and a beautiful coastline spanning nearly 21 miles along the Pacific Ocean, it has a become a private getaway for many homeowners. Some recreational amenities in this community include the beautiful trails, canyons, waterfalls, parks and state beaches near the Santa Monica mountains.
As early as 500 B.C., Malibu was home to the Chumash, seafaring people whose tiny villages stretched along the coast. In 1542, sailer and explorer Juan Cabrillo docked into Malibu claiming the land on behalf of King Charles III of Spain. In order to settle Spain in this area, the King sent expedition groups to secure their interests which included horses and mules. One of the group members, Jose Bartolome Tapia eventually became one of the first historical owners of Rancho Malibu.
Malibu is bordered by the Santa Monica Mountains to the north, Santa Monica to the south, Topanga Canyon to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Homes in Malibu range from $1 million to $50 million depending on size and location.
